This is a house for a woman and a man, their dog, and his boat. In fact, the boat and how it might be backed down a steepish hill and positioned so the man could work on it and wash it down within sight and sound of the house’s kitchen and living spaces, provided the beginnings for this design after others had been discarded.
Designed with a raw material palette, the house anchors into the sloping site like a rocky outcrop, with adjacent landscaped areas and in-built planters allowing the vegetation to climb across its rough face.
The site opens to the surrounding bay below it from north to the south-east, and green rolling hills above it to the west, all while nestling within the largely suburban context of the modern seaside town.
